What is Bitment
Bitment is the AI operating system for accounting firms, built for CPA practices and the client service firms that work beside them. Instead of a folder of disconnected tools for billing, email, files, projects, and client communication, Bitment gives your firm one workspace where every one of those things lives side by side and refers to the same underlying clients. A client, a file, an email, and a task are never separate records in separate systems: they are the same client, referenced everywhere.
The idea behind Bitment is simple to state and unusual to actually build: one workspace, one search, one AI, one set of clients. You sign in once. You search once, across everything. You talk to one AI that has the context of your whole firm, not a chatbot bolted onto a single feature. And every app you use, from bookkeeping to email, points back at the same client list.
Where to find it
Once you sign in, Bitment opens into your workspace: a dock of app tiles along the bottom of the screen (desktop) or a home-screen grid of icons (phone). Key concepts
- Operator: someone on your firm's own staff, using Bitment to run the business and serve clients. This documentation set is written for operators unless a page says otherwise.
- Client: a business or individual your firm serves. Clients are the organizing spine of the product: nearly every app can be scoped to one.
- Firm: your organization inside Bitment. An operator can belong to more than one firm at once; see Firms, scopes, and clients.
- The AI: the assistant woven through every app, not a separate product. It can answer questions, take actions on your behalf (subject to review), and run as autonomous Agents.
The app suite
Bitment's apps are organized into a small number of groups. Not every app is turned on for every operator by default; see Firms, scopes, and clients for how that works.

Every app shares the same client list, the same search, and the same AI. Opening a client from the Clients app switches your navigation into that client's own view of the apps that support it, see Firms, scopes, and clients.
The four surfaces
Bitment isn't only for your firm's own staff. The same underlying data is presented through four distinct surfaces, each built for a different audience:
- The operators workspace: the surface this documentation set mostly covers. Your firm's staff use it to manage clients, communicate, bill, and get work done.
- The client portal: where your clients sign in to respond to what you send them: files shared with them, documents to sign, and forms to fill out. See The client portal.

- The referrer partner portal: for outside parties who refer clients to your firm, to track the progress of what they've referred. See The referrer portal.

How the AI runs across everything
The AI isn't confined to a chat window. It appears as:
- AI Chat, a conversational assistant you open like any other app.
- The Assistant pane, a page-aware side panel that follows whatever app you're in and can act on what's in front of you, subject to your review.
- Agents, autonomous AI individuals your firm configures with their own permissions, memory, and schedules, that work continuously rather than only when you ask.

Bitment is designed for firms that handle sensitive financial and personal information under professional and regulatory obligations.
