Firms, scopes, and clients
Bitment is built around two ideas that shape almost every app: whether you're looking at your own data or your firm's shared data, and whether you're looking at everything firm-wide or one specific client. This page covers both, plus how your firm turns apps on and off.
Where to find it
The scope control sits at the top of any app that supports it. The client list lives in the Clients app; opening a client from there switches your navigation into that client's own view.
Key concepts
- Scope: whether an app shows your personal data (Mine) or your firm's shared data (Firm).
- Firm: your organization inside Bitment. You can belong to, and operate in, more than one at once.
- Firm badge: a small marker shown on anything that belongs to a firm, so shared items are visually distinct from your personal ones.
- Client sub-navigation: the version of the nav you see once you've opened a specific client, with every app scoped to that client's data.
Mine vs. Firm scope
Most apps can be scoped two ways, switched with the scope control at the top of the app:
- Mine: your personal data: your mail, your files, your calendar.
- Firm: data belonging to a firm you operate in, shared with your team.
Operating in several firms at once
You can operate in several firms at the same time, and there's no workspace switching to do it. One Bitment session spans every firm you belong to; there's no separate login or reload to move between them. Anything that belongs to a firm carries a firm badge, and when you create something meant to be shared, you're given a firm picker to choose which firm owns it.
Working inside a client
Clients are the organizing spine of the product. Opening a client from the Clients app switches your navigation to that client's own sub-navigation: the same kinds of apps, but every screen scoped to that one client, their files, their projects, their forms, their signatures.
There are two ways to reach the same information: firm-wide (all clients at once) from the main navigation, or client-scoped from inside a client. Use the client view when you're working one account end to end.
Which apps follow you into a client
The apps that appear inside a client's own sub-navigation are: Chat, Agents, and Tokens under AI; Projects and the Coordination group; the Financials apps (Bookkeeping, Payroll, Taxes, Wealth); and Files, Signatures, Forms, and Recordings under Data. Each of these, scoped to that client, shows only what belongs to them.
Emails, Calendar, Phone, Messages, and Meetings are firm-wide tools without a dedicated tab inside a client. To find a message, call, or event tied to a specific client, use search (see Search and shortcuts) rather than the client's own navigation.
Turning apps on and off
Not every app is enabled by default. The launch set every operator starts with is Clients, Files, Chat, Agents, Tokens, Projects, Emails, Calendar, Meetings, Messages, Phone, and Settings. The rest, Signatures, Forms, Recordings, Payroll, Bookkeeping, Taxes, Wealth, and Campaigns, are switched on per person by the Bitment team.
If an app you expect isn't in your dock, that's why: ask your firm's Bitment contact to enable it for you. Settings is always on; it's the gear tile at the tail of the dock and can't be turned off.
Tips
- A firm badge is your cue that something is shared with your team rather than personal to you.
- If you can't find a client-related conversation or event inside the client itself, search for it instead: several coordination apps are firm-wide only.
