Recordings
Recordings is where recorded sessions land: screen, camera and voice captures you make in the app, and video conferences held in Bitment, each with its transcript alongside the playback, and conferences also with their chat, shared notes, and AI summary.
Use it to capture a walkthrough for a client, keep a record of a call, or review a meeting you couldn't attend live.
Where to find it
Open Recordings from the dock, or Data › Recordings from inside a client (a recording made there is tagged with that client).
Key concepts
- Standalone recording. A screen, voice, or video capture you make directly in
Bitment.
- Conference recording. The recording of a Bitment video conference, finalized
automatically when the meeting room empties.
- View. Counted once, the first time a recording's playback starts, so the
library's view counts reflect what's actually being watched.
- Transcript. An automatic speech-to-text transcript of the recording's audio.
Make a recording
- Open Recordings and choose New Recording (on a phone, the round record
button at the bottom right).
- Pick a type, name it, then Continue:
- Screen. Your screen, with your webcam composited into the corner.
- Voice. Microphone only.
- Video. Your webcam with audio.
- The next step previews your camera and microphone and lets you switch either one,
before and while recording.
- Press Start Recording, then Stop Recording when you're done (ending the
browser's own screen-share also stops and saves it).
The recording appears in the library immediately and its media finishes uploading in the background. You'll see "Uploading recording…" and then "Recording saved." If you close the panel while a recording is still running, you're asked whether to Stop & save, Discard, or keep going.
On iPhone and iPad, Screen isn't offered. Those browsers can't capture the screen at all. Record voice or video there, and capture screens from a desktop.
Nothing is shared with anyone until you share it, even from inside a client.
Play back a recording
Click any row to open it.
- A conference recording's player carries its transcript with it: it follows the
playhead as it plays. Scroll away to read ahead and use Resume following to snap back, and clicking any line jumps playback there.
- A screen, voice, or video recording shows its transcript as a plain block below
the player instead. It doesn't sync to playback.
Keyboard: Space plays/pauses, ← and → skip back and forward five seconds.
On a phone, a conference recording's player stays pinned at the top while Transcript, Summary, Comments, Chat, Notes, and People sit as tabs across one strip below it.
Find a recording
Search matches transcripts, not just names. Searching for a phrase someone said will find the recording they said it in. Search also matches the client name. Filters narrow by type (conferences, screen, voice, video) and by sharing, and set the sort (newest, oldest, longest, shortest, name).
Transcripts and summaries
- A screen, voice, or video recording's transcript is generated automatically once
its audio finishes uploading. Playback never waits on it. While it's being produced the recording reads "Generating transcript…"; when it lands, read it below the player and Copy it in one tap. Transcription uses your firm's connected transcription credential; connect one under Settings › Connections if none is set up.
- A conference recording's transcript is the meeting's own transcript, captured
live as people spoke on the call, synced to the player. Conference recordings additionally carry the conference's AI summary, its chat, and the shared notes written during the call.
Comments on a recording
Conference recordings take internal, timestamped comments: type one and it pins to wherever the playhead is, and clicking a comment's timestamp jumps back there. These are internal to your team.
Rename, share, delete
Every recording's row menu (⋯) carries Share With Client, Permissions, Rename, Download, and Delete. On a phone, swipe a row: right to share, left to delete.
- Share With Client puts the recording in that client's portal and gives you the
link.
- Permissions shares it with colleagues. Anyone you share it with can play and
download it, exactly as they can see it in their own library.
To act on several at once on a phone, choose Select recordings from the ⋯ menu and use the bar at the bottom to share or delete them together.
The AI can rename, share, and delete recordings for you, staged for your approval, and can summarize what was said in a call because it reads the transcript.
Where recordings come from
- New Recording. Screen, camera, or voice, captured here.
- Bitment video conferences. A recording finalizes into a recording when the room
empties. Recording isn't currently offered as a choice on a new calendar event or booking link; only a meeting already carrying a Bitment conference is recordable.
- Meetings capture. A call recorded live during a video conference lands here too,
covered further in the meetings documentation.
Tips
- View counts reflect real playback; the owner's own re-watches count too.
- A recording's transcript covers whatever audio is on the recorded track (the mic for
voice/video, the mixed mic-and-system track for screen recordings).
