Settings

Settings is where you configure everything that isn't a specific piece of client work: your own account, how the AI behaves for you and your firm, dictation, notification delivery, your firm's team and permissions, and every connection to an outside service. It's one app with a left-hand list of pages, split into your personal settings first and a Connections group beneath them.

Some pages here are second doors onto surfaces that also exist elsewhere. Account and the standing AI Context editor mirror the account dashboard behind your avatar; Notifications mirrors the gear inside the Notifications view. Change something in either place and both reflect it immediately, so there's no "which copy is current" confusion.

Where to find it

Click the gear tile at the tail of the dock, the last item in the navigation rail. It's always available, on every firm, regardless of which apps your firm has turned on.

Key concepts

What lives where

PageWhat it holds
AccountYour profile, linked email addresses, sign-in methods (two-factor authentication coming soon), diagnostics sharing, and the firms you operate in
AIThe default model new chats start on, links to each app's own AI settings, and, at the foot of the page, the standing AI Context editor
Voice-to-TextDictation: the on/off switch, which microphone is captured, and which credential is billed for transcription
NotificationsThe per-app, per-channel delivery matrix (in-app, desktop, mobile)
FirmTeam management for each firm you operate in: members, roles, permissions, invitations
ConnectionsOne page per outside service: Google, Microsoft, Slack, Signal, Telegram, Fireflies, Asana, Quo, CCH Axcess, QuickBooks Online, and the AI provider credentials

Set the default AI model

  1. Open Settings › AI.
  2. Under Default model for new chats, pick a model.

Every new conversation starts on that model and bills its credential. You can still switch models inside any individual chat; this only sets the starting point. It's the same setting as the gear next to the model picker on the Chat app's New Chat screen, so changing it in either place updates both.

Edit the standing AI Context

Scroll to the foot of Settings › AI to find the Context editor. It has a Personal tab that only you see, and one tab per firm you operate in, shared and edited live with your team.

Whatever you write here is handed to every AI feature as background, so it's the place for standing instructions: "always call me by my first name," "we file on a calendar year," or a firm's house style. Edits save as you type. This is the same document as the account dashboard's Context page, so you never have two copies to keep in sync.

Facts about one specific client stay on that client's own Context page inside Clients, so they don't clutter every prompt you send.

Diagnostics sharing

On Settings › Account, a Share my account for diagnostics switch lets a member of the Bitment support team investigate an issue you're having, on your account, when you ask for help. It's off by default. Turn it on while you're working with support, then turn it back off once your issue is resolved.

Manage your firm's team

Settings › Firm is the roster for each firm you operate in: invite members, set roles and fine-grained permissions, grant access to specific resources, and manage AI agents as team members. See Firm and team for the full picture. The same surface is reachable from the account dashboard, behind your avatar, under Firms › Manage members.

Connect an outside service

Open the service's page under the Connections group and follow its connect flow. See Connections overview for what each service needs and where its data shows up.

AI provider credentials aren't set here

The credentials that pay for AI (Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, OpenRouter, Ollama) are administered by the Bitment team on your behalf, not configured by you in this app. What you control here is which model you use; what it costs lives in the Tokens app. See AI providers.

Per-device vs per-account settings

Most of what you set in Settings is per-account: your role and permissions, the firm's team roster, your notification preferences, the default AI model, and the AI Context documents all follow you (or your firm) to any computer you sign in on.

A handful of things are per-device instead, saved to the browser or app you're using right now: which microphone Voice-to-Text captures, whether dictation is switched on at all, and whether you're asked before opening an external link in an email. Reconfigure those on a new computer if you want the same behavior there.
