Slack

Connecting Slack mirrors a workspace's channels, direct messages, group DMs, threads, and reactions into Bitment, so you can work in Slack without leaving the app. It acts as you, the connected person, never as a separate bot, so everything you post in Bitment shows up in Slack as coming from you.

Key concepts

Personal connection. A Slack connection belongs to you, not your firm. You can connect any number of workspaces, and each teammate connects their own.
Two-stage sync. A newly connected workspace mirrors quickly, then keeps filling in older history in the background.

Connect a workspace

Open Settings › Connections › Slack.
Click to connect, and authorize your workspace through Slack's own consent page.
You're returned to Bitment, connected.

To connect an additional workspace, use the same Connect another action. You aren't limited to one.

What to expect right after connecting

Slack limits how fast any app may download message history, so a first connect runs in stages:

Syncing workspace…: the channel and member list mirrors in. Usually seconds.
Syncing conversations…: every channel and DM gets its recent messages. Once this clears, the whole workspace is usable and new messages arrive instantly.
Filling in older history…: older messages keep loading quietly in the background. Nothing is blocked while this runs, and it can take a while on a large workspace, since Slack's own rate limits govern how fast history can be pulled.

Thread replies load the first time you open that thread, so opening an old thread for the first time can take a moment.

What shows up in Messages

Open Messages and switch to the Slack tab. With more than one workspace connected, a rail of workspace tiles runs down the left edge; click one to switch. You get Slack's own search modifiers, browsing channels, starting new messages, and formatting marks (*bold*, _italic_, code, and fenced blocks) as you type.

Sending

Type in the message box like any other conversation. Paste a screenshot straight in to attach it. The assistant can also read your Slack channels and draft messages for your approval before anything sends.

Disconnect

Use Disconnect on the workspace's card in Settings › Connections › Slack. This stops syncing that workspace; reconnect any time from the same page.
