QuickBooks Online
If a client's books already live in QuickBooks Online, you don't have to migrate them to start using Bitment. Connecting QuickBooks mirrors a company's chart of accounts and journal entries into a Bitment book, two-way, so every report and AI feature works on live QuickBooks data. This is off by default and has to be enabled for your account; contact support if you don't see it.
Where to find it
This page, Settings › Connections › QuickBooks, manages existing connections: re-authenticating, disconnecting, or canceling a connection in progress. New connections are made from the Bookkeeping app's QuickBooks tab, under Connect a Book, since connecting a company and creating the book that mirrors it are one flow there.
Key concepts
- A full OAuth sign-in against Intuit. There's nothing to set up and no keys to paste; you sign in through Intuit's own consent page.
- Many connections per owner. Unlike CCH Axcess, you can hold as many QuickBooks connections as you have companies, since each of your firm's clients typically lives in its own QuickBooks company file. Each Intuit authorization covers exactly one company.
Connect a company
- Open Bookkeeping, switch to the QuickBooks tab, and click Connect a Book.
- Pick who the connection belongs to (Personal or a firm, if you belong to more than one).
- Continue to Intuit's sign-in and choose the QuickBooks company to authorize.
- Name the book (it defaults to the company name), assign clients, and create it.
Bitment imports the whole company, the chart of accounts and every posted transaction, and keeps the two sides in sync from then on.
What syncs which way
- Accounts and journal entries sync both ways. Edit either side and the other follows within a few minutes, or immediately after Sync now.
- Everything else, invoices, bills, payments, deposits, transfers, mirrors one way, as read-only entries. Those stay editable only in QuickBooks; the change syncs over once you make it there.
- Bank feeds don't come over. QuickBooks doesn't share its own bank-feed review data with connected apps, so a QuickBooks book's Transactions page has no linked bank accounts of its own; review and categorize bank transactions in QuickBooks itself.
Re-authenticate or disconnect
If a connection's card shows a re-authentication alert, click Re-authenticate; nothing needs re-entering. Disconnect on this page removes the whole connection: every book that mirrors it keeps its local data, and syncing simply stops for all of them. To stop syncing a single book without touching its siblings, unlink that one book instead, from its own Book Settings.
