Google Workspace
Connecting Google brings your Gmail and Google Calendar into Bitment. There's no unified "Google account" connection behind the scenes: mail and calendar are two independent grants, each connected, reconnected, or removed on its own, because that's how Google's own permissions work.
Where to find it
Settings › Connections › Google. The same connect controls also live inside the Emails app (under Manage accounts) and inside Calendar, whichever you reach first.
Key concepts
- Mail grant: access to one Gmail mailbox. Powers the Emails app.
- Calendar grant: access to your Google calendars. Powers the Calendar app.
- A single Google account can hold both grants, or just one; you can connect several Google accounts, one grant at a time each.
Connect Gmail
- Open Emails from the dock, or Settings › Connections › Google.
- Click + Add account (in Emails) or follow the Mail section's connect flow (in Settings).
- Sign in on Google's own page and grant access. You'll land back in Bitment, connected.
Your existing Gmail labels come across with the account and appear under Folders in the Emails app's folder drawer. Mail already filed under one of your own labels shows there instead of cluttering your inbox. Your existing Gmail signature imports automatically too.
Connect Google Calendar
- Open Calendar from the dock, or Settings › Connections › Google.
- Follow the connect prompt, or go to Calendar's own Settings › Connected accounts.
- Sign in on Google's page.
Once connected, every calendar on that account appears in Calendar's sidebar, grouped by category, with per-calendar visibility toggles and color overrides.
What shows up where
- Emails: your Gmail inbox, sent mail, and folders, with split inboxes, search across your full Gmail history, and an AI panel that can read and triage on your behalf.
- Calendar: every calendar on the connected account, side-by-side team availability, video conferencing through Google Meet on Google calendars, and Google Tasks if your account has any.
Video conferencing
On a Google calendar, Google Meet is available as the video-conferencing choice for events and booking links, and is the default; Microsoft Teams is greyed out there, since each provider can only create meetings on its own calendars.
If it stops syncing
Google revokes Bitment's access whenever the underlying sign-in changes, most often after a password change, but also if an admin revokes sessions or you remove Bitment from your account's connected apps. You'll get a notification and a reconnect banner on the affected account. Sign in again and syncing resumes from where it stopped; nothing already synced is lost.
Mail and calendar connect separately, even for the same Google account. If a password change knocks out both, reconnecting your mailbox doesn't reconnect your calendar; reconnect each from its own app.
Disconnect
Remove an account from the gear menu next to the account tabs in Emails, or from the Connected accounts section in Calendar. Removing a mail account deletes the mail synced from that mailbox; removing a calendar account stops showing its events. Neither touches the underlying Google account itself.
